AUSTIN (AP) - Texas lawmakers have approved legislation to require schools to adopt anti-bullying policies and improve prevention methods.

The Texas Senate voted Monday for a bill that provides a framework for districts to develop and implement policies to prohibit bullying in any form. The bill returns to the House for final approval before landing on Gov. Rick Perry’s desk.

The bill gives school boards discretion to transfer a bullying student to a different classroom or district campus.

Schools would also have to specify methods for reporting and investigating bullying incidents.

Lawmakers have been working to create zero-tolerance for bullying since some students have committed suicide because of being bullied.

More than 10 different versions of anti-bullying legislation were filed this session.
